First thing in the morning is not the best time of day for a lot of people and many find it hard enough to get out of bed at all, let alone feel upbeat and motivated. Monday morning’s are the worst, especially in the winter, that’s when rolling over and going back to sleep seems like the best plan of action of the day. If you are one of those people who just can’t get the motor running in the mornings, then read on, because we have ten great tips that will fill you with energy and motivation at the start of every day.
1. Go to bed earlier
One of the reasons that you could feel so lethargic in the mornings is that you are just not getting enough sleep. You can’t seriously expect to be bouncing with energy after just a few hours’ sleep, so get to bed an hour earlier and give your batteries a chance to recharge. Most adults need at least eight hours sleep a day. You can manage on less, but you won’t be at your best when you wake up if you do.
2. Make a to-do list the night before
One thing that will get you down in the morning is suddenly remembering that huge list of things you need to get done. You can avoid that early morning panic, by spending half an hour the night before planning out your day. When you wake up, you will already know what you have to do, and how you are going to do it. It will also help you sleep better at night.
3. Get straight out of bed
When your alarm goes off, don’t hit the snooze button, because that’s the worst thing you could do for your motivation. The longer you stay in your warm and comfortable bed, the more you will dread getting out of it. If you are a snooze button addict, try moving your alarm away from your bed so you have to get up to switch it off.
4. Drink a glass of water
You become quite dehydrated while you sleep and that can make you feel drowsy, so make drinking a glass of water the first thing you do when you wake up. Put a glass of water next to your alarm clock before you go to sleep and it will be there waiting for you in the morning. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference a glass of water can make in the mornings.
5. Do some stretching exercises
When you first get up, do five minutes of stretching exercises and that will get the blood circulating around your body again. You can’t get motivated while you are still half asleep, so stretch your legs, arms, neck and everything else. That will get more oxygen to your brain and your muscles and you will feel far more alert.
